Ford Shop Manuals
For each year and model Ford vehicle, Ford produced a shop manual for maintenance and repair, including the engine. Old shop manuals are available from many vendors specializing in automotive literature. In addition, many of the more popular shop manuals are in reproduction. No serious enthusiast should be without a shop manual for his particular car. The book Mustang and Ford Small Block V8, 1962-1969 was prepared as a companion to the small block V8 section of Ford shop manuals.

Engine Equipment Assembly Manuals
Now in reproduction by Jim Osborn Reproductions, these manuals contain the instructions used by Ford to assemble the engine. Although some productions changes were made after these instructions were released, they still serve a useful purpose in showing the assembly of components.
www.autokrafters.com. Currently not listed in AutoKrafters’ on-line catalog, but still can be ordered on-line. Available years are 1963 (AM063), 1964 (AM0154), 1965 (AM0155), 1966 (AM0156), and 1969 (AM0159).

How to Rebuild Your Small Block Ford
A book by Tom Monroe that has been reissued. It is good as a general introduction, however many of the casting numbers listed in the included charts are actually engineering numbers. For the correct casting numbers see the book Mustang and Ford Small Block V8, 1962-1969.

Muscle Parts Catalog
Not currently in reproduction, this catalog covered Ford’s 1969 Muscle Parts Program. There a couple of mistakes in regards to installing 351W heads on a 289/302 which are corrected in the book Mustang and Ford Small Block V8, 1962-1969.
Not available, except through vendors dealing in obsolete literature.

The 289 High Performance Mustang
A book by Tony Gregory with good coverage of the 289 HiPo. There are some minor errors, but it is packed full of information about the HiPo engine. The book Mustang and Ford Small Block V8, 1962-1969 will provide more depth in some of the engine details.
